Bev-Nii Anderson, 67 , of Hackensack, Minn., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at her home. She was born June 5, 1941, at the Cass Lake Indian Hospital to Kenneth and Ann Marie Bowers. She is survived by her husband, Dick; three children, Scott Charnley, Lynne Chapman and Debra Charnley; one grandson, Kenny Charnley; and four sisters, Deanna, Karen, Kathy and Darlene. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roy, Ronnie, Jerry and Doug; and one sister, Donna. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Winnifred D. Anderson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Trillium Assisted Living Facility in Bemidji, MN. Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN with Rev. Mark Papke-Larson officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN. She was born July 14, 1925, in Walker, MN, the daughter of Peter Lillemo and Ruth (Lembke) Lillemo. She was raised and educated in Wilkinson Township near Walker, MN. She married the late Marvin R. Anderson in 1955. They lived in Bemidji, MN. Winnifred was the Executive Officer for the US Indian Health Service, where she received the Meritorious Service Award, until she retired in 1989 after over 34 years of federal service. Winnifred was passionate about community health care. She served on the North Country Hospital Board of Directors, including as its Chairman, and was an active supporter of the American Cancer Society including being a mentor for women with breast cancer. Winnifred also received the Minnesota Volunteer of the Year award for her active support of health care. Winnifred is survived by her two children: Bradley Anderson of Bemidji; and Cynthia (Paul) Pederson of Batavia, IL; and her grandchildren; Andrew (18) and Breanna (14) Pederson of Batavia, IL. She is also survived by her brother David Lillemo of Coeur d’Alene, ID. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, in 1999; her brother Richard in 1973; and her parents. CHAMBERS, Frank B. – born 10/04/1923, Remer, MN; died 02/19/2002, aged 78

Frank B. Chambers, 78 of Cloquet died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 in the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. He was born October 4, 1923 in Remer, Minn. Frank was an Army Veteran of WWII. On September 18, 1946, he married Iva Fields in Kingston, Arkansas. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder throughout the country. He moved to Duluth in 1958 and has lived in Cloquet since 1977. In 1966 he went to work as a welder for Northland Equipment and later for Lake Superior Oil until retiring in June of 1990. Frank was a former member of the Duluth Apostolic Gospel Church. He was a member of River of Life Church, Local Union #49 and the Teamsters Local 324. He enjoyed spending time and fishing at Shamrock Lake near Bovey. Frank was preceded in death by his mother in 1979 and several siblings. He is survived by his wife, Iva of Cloquet; his children, John (Shelly) of Waltham, Mass., Eddie (Jan) of Grand Rapids, David (Linda) of Wrenshall, Frankie (Jeff) Brunelle of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Cleo (Joyce) of Penguilly, James of Cloquet, Alice Waltz of Brainerd and Leola Hey of Virginia; his sister, Alice Rix of British Columbia; 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his special and dear friends, Scott and Melody Maker of Cloquet and his church family. Rapid City - Delores E. "Dee" Curtis, 72 , of Rapid City, passed away on Fri., Jan. 5, 2007 at her daughter's home in Rapid City, surrounded by her loving family. Delores was born Feb. 7, 1934 in Backus, MN to Edward and Zelma (Blanchard) Kimball. She married Myron "Mike" Curtis on Mar. 31, 1950 in Henning, MN. They moved to Rapid City from Duluth, MN in 1972. She was a clerk at Sooper Dooper Liquor Store in Rapid City for 30 years, retiring on Jan. 29, 2006. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. Delores's husband, Mike, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She enjoyed crocheting and playing Bingo. She was a bowler and won many trophies and awards. She enjoyed camping, car racing, swimming, and fishing in Minnesota. She was an awesome cook. She is survived by four children, Kathryn Graham (fiancé Randy Bailey) of Rapid City, Douglas (Linda) Curtis of Duluth, MN, Karla (Paul) Laulunen of Duluth, MN, Karmen (Lynn) Aga of Sturgis; her brothers, Sherald Kimball and Nels (Christine) Kimball of Duluth, her sister, Carolyn Ernest of Duluth, MN; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, parents, four brothers, Merl Kimball, Alfred Kimball, Edwin Kimball and Edward Kimball. Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then on Tuesday for one hour before services. Services are set for 11:00 a.m. Tues., Jan. 9, 2007 at Kirk Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael J. Fox officiating. DABILL, Donald Albert – born 08/18/1920, Bull Moose Township, MN; died 05/03/2009, aged 88; last known residence Cass County, MN

Don Dabill, age 88 of Pine River, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009. He was born in Bull Moose Township, on Aug. 18, 1920, where he lived 11 years until 1931, when he moved to Bungo Township, where he lived 67 years. Then in 1998 he moved back to Bull Moose Township. Don served in the Army from Nov. 11, 1942 until April 2, 1946. He married Myrle on June 9, 1943. He served ETO (European Theater of Operation) under General Eisenhower and Patton. He was an Army Medical Sergeant Technician 4th Class, and attended the Nuremberg Trials in 1946, returning home in 1946 and two years of adjusting to civilian life. He farmed from 1948 until 1993. He started driving school bus in 1951 and drove for 15 years. He was an accredited and certified Minnesota state assessor for 15 years for Bungo Township and a number of other townships in Cass and Crow Wing Counties, and served on the Pine River School Board for 12 years starting in 1974, He drove bookmobile from March 1966 until December 1988. He taught Sunday School for 52 years, serving as a Sunday school superintendent in three churches, and was on the church board for 30 plus years. He served as 1st Chairman of Foster Parents Organization of Cass County and as a 4H leader a number of years. Don enjoyed fulfillment of his lifetime dream of producing electricity with his homemade water wheel on Dabill Creek, which was shown on television and enjoyed by thousands of people over a period of several years. In later years he enjoyed expressing himself by writing in a number of local papers. He also enjoyed composing a book of poems, which was published with his wife Myrle's illustrations. One of his last enjoyments of civic duties was to be zoning officer of Bungo Township for a number of years. He served as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Home for a number of years starting about 1995. He is survived by his wife, Myrle; two daughters, Linda (Walter) Jenson and Karen (Bill) Korpi; two sons, Doug (Winnie) Dabill and Richard Dabill. 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sister Mary of Oregon and brother John of Fargo. Services will be 2 pm Thursday, May 7 at Mildred Bible Chapel, Backus. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Visitation was Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River and one hour prior to the service.

FAIRLEY, June Doris (Burnard) – born 06/02/1924, Longville, MN; died 03/18/2009, aged 84; last known residence Crow Wing County, MN

Pequot Lakes - June Fairley, age 84, of Pequot Lakes, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at St. Cloud Hospital. June Doris Burnard was born June 2, 1924, at Longville to Ernest and Minnie (Halliday) Burnard. She grew up and attended school at Longville. She married Art Larson. They lived in Lake Edward Township. Art passed away in 1956. In 1965, June was married to Elmer Fairley in Pequot Lakes where they made their home. Elmer died in 1994. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, karaoke and all kinds of music and flower gardening. June is survived by her sons, Harold "Butch" (Roselyn) Larson, of Nisswa, Gerald "Fatty" Larson and Raymond Larson, of Pequot Lakes; daughter, Marie Fairley, of Maple Grove; four stepdaughters; three sisters; five half brothers and half sisters; 18 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Art and Elmer; two sisters; a half brother and half sister; and by four grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Brainerd. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kline Funeral Home of Pequot Lakes and one hour prior to services at the church.

FUNK, Calvin James – born 07/25/1937, Cass Lake, MN; died 04/22/2008, aged 70; last known residence Cass County MN

Calvin James Funk, 70, of Pennington, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements. He was born July 25, 1937, to Frank and Suzanne (Northbird) Funk in Cass Lake. He worked as a construction foreman for many years. He is survived by his sons, Lenee (Monique) Ross of St. Joseph, Minn., and Brian (Connie) Funk of Cass Lake; daughter, Sheri (Jody) Bebeau of Ball Club; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was born May 12, 1933, in Bungo Township to Leonard and Anna Johnson. Alice is survived by her son Doug of Brainerd; aunts Petra Johnson of Minneapolis and Hilda Kuehn of Milnor, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Leslie; and sisters Palma Norman, Betty Nichols and Marlene Newman.

Crystal "Cris" J. Johnson, 82 of Esko died Saturday, May 18, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born March 18, 1920 in Federal Dam, MN to William and Almina (Irish) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Federal Dam. She later moved to Duluth and on January 10, 1948 she married William Johnson in Cromwell. They made their home in Esko where Cris worked at the Cloquet Coop Store in Esko and later at the Minute Mart until retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Cariton VFW Auxiliary and the Teamsters Local 346 Retiree's Club. She enjoyed taking bus trips with the Retiree's Club, her monthly lunch with her friends at St. Matthew's, making rag rugs and she especially enjoyed her cat, Sophie. Cris was preceded in death by her husband, William on July 3, 1999; sisters, Ore, Margaret and Oris; brothers, Myrl, Don, Douglas and Addison. She is survived by sons, Don (Carloyn) Francisco of Prospect Heights, IL and Wayne Francisco of Esko; daughters, Linda (Gordy) McLain of Fence, WI and Sheri (Jim) Johnson of Mountain Iron; brother, Kenneth (Muriel) Cress of Phillips, WI, sisters, Celia Carpenter and Vera Whitted both of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Esko and Alice Johnson of Cloquet; grandchildren Nick Johnson, Jeff and John Francisco and five great-grandchildren. Perth - Mrs. Louise E. Krohn, 78 , of Stairs Road, died Wednesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Cass Lake, Minn., Mrs. Krohn moved to Corinth as a child and had lived in the Perth area for 50 years. She was a 1941 graduate of Corinth High School. Mrs. Krohn and her husband operated a dairy farm in Perth. At one time, she worked for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady and the former Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. She also worked at the former Martin Jay Dress Shop, Amsterdam, and in the Galway Central School cafeteria. She worked for the Amsterdam Post Office and retired as a rural letter carrier in 1985 after 16 years of service. Mrs. Krohn was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Saratoga Springs. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 337 of Broadalbin, a member and former president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8690 of Broadalbin, and a member of several area bowling leagues. She was a former member of the "Take Off Pounds Sensibly" club and was its secretary for four years. Survivors include her husband, Carl Krohn, whom she married Oct. 14, 1945; a son, Gary C. Krohn of Perth; two daughters, Gail L. Cole of Galway and Joan E. Krohn-Dybowski of Broadalbin; a brother, Hubert A. Loeffler Sr. of Greenfield Center; a sister, Caroline M. Patterson of Glens Falls; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. James Eugene Lightfeather, 45, of Duluth died Saturday, June 11, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. Jim was born Jan. 21, 1960 in Cass Lake to James and Bertha (Nason) Lightfeather. He was raised in Red Cliff, Wis. and has been a resident of Duluth most of his life. Jim was currently a full time student at FondDu Lac Tribal and Community College. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, Bonnie Court; his children, James E. Lightfeather Jr., Tisha Lightfeather, Lois Lightfeather, John Lightfeather all of Wis. and Shayna Lightfeather of Thunder Bay, Ontario; his sisters, Bernice Lightfeather, Eunice Lightfeather, Nancy Valenzeala, Philimay Lightfeather and Mary Chee. 13 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. LOEFFLER, Eugene M. – born c. 1917, Cass Lake, MN; died 10/24/2000, aged 83

Wilton - Eugene M. Loeffler Sr., 83 , of Jones Road, died Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Born in Cass Lake, Minn., Mr. Loeffler had been a Wilton resident for 46 years. He had been a greens mower for McGregor Country Club for 13 years until his retirement. Mr. Loeffler was a cabinet builder for the General Electric Co., Schenectady, for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a shop steward for IUE Local 301, Schenectady, for 15 years. Mr. Loeffler was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy, France, and the Rhineland from 1941 to 1945. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 420, Saratoga Springs. Mr. Loeffler was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee. Survivors include his wife, Donna Wendell Loeffler, whom he married May 23, 1954; a son, Eugene M. Loeffler Jr. of Pine Bush; two daughters, Lynn M. Kesler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Lisa Loeffler of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Hubert A. Loeffler of Greenfield Center; two sisters, Louise Krohn of Amsterdam and Caroline Patterson of Glens Falls; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. LOUCKS, Shirley May (Swaim) – born 11/07/1928, Pillager, MN; died 08/19/2005, aged 76

Shirley May Loucks, 76 of Carlton died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born Nov. 7, 1928 in Pillager to Ernest and Ethel (Crocker) Swaim. Shirley married Duane R. Loucks on June 21, 1943 in Walker. After their marriage they made their home in Pillager. They later moved to Minneapolis where Shirley worked in several factories during World War II. In 1955 they moved to Atkinson. Shirley worked at the Moose Lake State Hospital from 1968 until retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Jesus Center in Barnum and had taught Sunday School for several years. She enjoyed knitting, canning, and gardening. As a young girl, Shirley enjoyed skating and skiing. While living in Atkinson, she belonged to a sewing club and wrote the Atkinson column in the Cloquet Pine Knot. She was also a member of the State Labor Union Local 1092. Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Duane Loucks of Carlton; her children, Diana (Bill) Robertson of Atlanta, Ga., Richard (Mary) Loucks of Wrenshall, Kathy (Rick) Bonneville of Atkinson, Judy (Charlie) Lowell of Las Vegas, Nev., Jackie (Rick) Svacina of Cloquet, Steven (Alyson) Loucks, and Kenneth (Shelly) Loucks both of Atkinson; brothers, Marvin (Gerry) Swain of Mustang, Okla. and Billy Swaim of Bridgeport, Mich.; sister, Barb Riskin of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; step-brothers, Glenn Hagg of Pillager and Donnie Hagg of Ft. She was employed as a cook for many years. She worked at Marine Grill, Eddies, P.J.'s and she retired from the Holiday Inn. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the former St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She is survived by seven daughters, Carolyn (Clayton) Crandall of Gilbert, Ariz., Marlys (Russell) Tuura of South Range, Karen (John) Kirscht of Eau Claire, Dianne (Brian) Nichols of Olympia, Wash., Rita (Earl) Poferl of Cloquet, Darlene Sarkiaho of Tumwater, Wash. and Janice Sarkiaho of Superior; one son, Kurt Sarkiaho of Winona, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Wilson of Bemidji, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Marissa; two brothers, Clarence and Curtis; and her parents, Edwin and Theresa Wilson. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Todd Iverson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Patricia Marie Schwartz, 53, of Cloquet, died unexpectedly in her home. She was born November 29, 1949 in Cass Lake, the daughter of Jesse and Lois Vezina. She was a 1966 graduate of Goodridge High School and attended Vo-Tech school in Wadena. Pat enjoyed coin collecting, cooking, baking, and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Vezina. Patricia was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. SHAFFER, Lorraine G. (Filla) – born 12/03/1930, Cass Lake, MN; died 01/12/2012, aged 81

Lorraine G. Shaffer, age 81 , of Rhinelander, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2012, passing peacefully away at home in the company of family and friends and under the care of Ministry Hospice. She was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Cass Lake, Minn., to Aloyze and Mary (Preston) Filla. Lorraine graduated from Cass Lake High School in 1948, and attended French's Business School in Bemidji, Minn. She was employed in office administration with the Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources and in accounting with several banks in Minnesota. Lorraine and her husband, Paul made Rhinelander their home since 1992. Lorraine will be remembered for her strong faith and her unwavering belief in God and the power of prayer. She treasured her friends and in return, was treasured by them. Lorraine was generous to all who needed her and she always found a way to laugh even in the hard times and continued that sense of humor until the very end. She always found a home for strays. Lorraine's favorite times were the trips to Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel with her daughter, Bonnie and friend, Nancy. She will be greatly missed. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Paul Shaffer of Rhinelander; her daughter, Bonnie Shaffer of Rhinelander; her "adopted" daughter, Dawn Bey; special friends, Nancy Engel and Vianna Northrup; a sister, Marge Hengel of Arizona; and her special pet companions, Sophie and Taffee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aloyze and Mary Filla. A memorial celebration with the family will take place. Weather Related Change to Services Judith I. Stelter age 68 of Garvin, MN died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Hospice House of Marshall. Services will be 1:30 PM Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, MN, and continue at the church on Sunday from 11:30 AM until time of service. Interment will be in the Bethany Cemetery, near Lake Shetek, following a luncheon to be served at the church. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Judith Ione Stelter was born June 20, 1942 to Willard and Ruby (Mealman) Wirtjes in Pine River, MN, Cass County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Russell Public Schools, graduating from Russell High School in 1960. On December 17, 1960 Judy married Francis Stelter at the Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin, MN and they made their home in Garvin. They then moved to Killeen, TX, before returning to Minnesota. After living in central Minnesota they returned to Garvin in 1976. Judy worked as a home health care nurse for Lyon County and then as a bookkeeper for Tri-State Petroleum in Marshall. She was a member of the Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin and in the past had taught Sunday school. Judy enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. In October of 2010 she entered the Hospice House of Marshall, MN where she died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the age of 68. Judy is survived by her husband, Francis Stelter of Garvin, MN; three sons, Mark (Susan) Stelter of Rapid City, SD, Eric (Carissa) Stelter of Watertown, SD and Jason (Liz) Stelter of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Zachary, Lexi, Cole, Jack, and Sam Stelter; one sister, Sharon (Ted) Haugen of Currie, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends. Frances V. Young, 84 , of Washington died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Washington. Born March 3, 1924, in Pillager, Minn., she was the daughter of Elmer and Matilda Kallaus Durst. On Feb. 24, 1948, she married Chester James Young in Washington. Mrs. Young worked at Goodyear Factory inspecting fuel tanks in bombers during World War II and at the Pearl Button Factory in Muscatine. She was a member of United Church of Crawfordsville and the Rural Homemakers of Crawfordsville. She enjoyed gardening, farming with her husband, fishing and quilting. Survivors include two sons, Roger Young of Washington and John Young of Iowa City; one daughter, Diane Singer of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Johnson-Corey of Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The funeral for Mrs. Young will be at 2 p.m Wednesday at United Church of Crawfordsville with the Rev. Nancy Love officiating. Burial will be in Crawfordsville Cemetery.
